Hey all need some advice. I searched and could not find any info. I have a problem choosing the correct column length. I had a 28 inch non- tilt originally and want to know if I would have any problems sticking a 30 inch into the jeep. Would the tilt make up for any differences in body clearance? They do make a 28 inch but would a 30 inch be the way to go? I'm buying a Flaming River so I'd like to get it right. What lengths do you guys have? Any inputs greatly appreciated.

Sorry if I'm beating the dead horse again. :?

    Thanks!

From what points do they measure to get the length? I have a tilt GM column from Centech.

I took mine out of a 1970 Monte Carlo, tilt column, and then I bolted it up to a mid-late 70s Jeep hanging pedal assembly. It appears to be in a good location. Then I cut the shafts to the length needed to bolt to the PS box. I know this does not answer your measurement question, but that is how I fit mine. Hope that helps in some way.

Ididit 30" installed in the '51 - have also used 28's in the past - really a matter of where you want it.

Mock up a PVC pipe with a steering wheel on it (your gonna need one any way) and see if it's where you want it. That's how I do mine - lots of PVC and wooden dowels - cheaper than the real stuff and I aways change if from what I first thought.

i agree with warloch about the dowels and pvc. he mentioned it when i was fitting my intermediate shaft. it works great. then you know the exact lengths and can let the manufacturer help you with compensating for joint lengths etc.

the $5 in pvc and dowels saved me $$$ and i could live with the mockup for a while and make small adjustments as needed until i was sure. the mockup is easy to make changes to. a little patience now pays off big time later.
