I'm not too knowledgeable about axles. I was in the mud in 4 low. All four wheel were spinning. Does this mean I have positraction axles or some sort of mechanical lockers? I bought the Jeep with these axles from another guy and have never opened them up. Dana 27 front, Dana 44 centered rear.

you can only really tell if you have one wheel off the ground and the other wheel still has traction. with the mud you probably had equal traction on both tires.

it is possible that your rear d44 has a power lock as it was an option at the time. if you have one, order up a new clutch pack for it and you will have a nice limited slip diff with great traction. they did make one for the d27 also, but much less common.

    Simple test...

Stick a floor jack under the pumpkin and lift the whole end of the Jeep off the ground. Spin a tire by hand. If the other tire moves in the same direction, you have a limited slip or locker of some sort. If the other tire moves in the opposite direction, you have an open differential.
