Does anyone know where you can find the correct or close to the correct color for the 225 V6 engine? I know that the color is called Buick Turquoise Blue but no one seems to carry it any more since Martin Senoir is out of the spray business. :?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm ready to put my engine back together and need to paint.

I'm not sure of the color but try a search for engine paint or words to that effect.
I know some of the guys have talked about it some.

The most common substitute is Alpine Green used by Detroit Diesel, and is commonly available. It's kinda close but not historically accurate.

While we're on the subject, what's the correct color for a 1956 F-head 134 in a CJ5? Is it black?

    Did you look here?

That's a big part of the reason I started the tech section article discussion section. Just haven't completed all the links yet.

Yeah, I looked there, and did a search, so I found what I was needing. This is a big site, takes awhile to poke around with a 56k dialup connection and an old computer from a dumpster. There's a helluva lot here that I still haven't seen or figured out how to do. I'm more geezer than geek.

If you have ideas about how to organize what we have better then please let me know! I was hoping the tech section article discussion would help?

Might split this thread soon if we continue this discussion as such.

Oh, don't look at me! I'm TOTALLY clueless about all things involved in putting together websites. That's one of life's biggest mysteries to me, is how websites are made. I'm jealous because I'm not even geek enough to make one of those free sites where people put their own photos on for others to view. I enjoy computers, but I wouldn't have this one if it hadn't been thrown away. I have decent computers and access at work, but not at home. Long story.

I think this site is very impressive, and I'm glad I found it. There's tons of great information you have posted here, and I've pretty much found it all, but I'm finding the really good stuff is buried in the postings in the various forums, and those go back years. Lots of digging, even with searches. But, good info comes in all kinds of nuggets, so it would be impossible to organize everything, IMO.

You're the perfect person to ask though. What would making information easier for you?

Doesn't matter what you do or don't know about building a website. Is our Tech Section Index, http://earlycj5.com/TechIndex.shtml easy to use and find information you're looking for or does searching work there as well as in the forum for you, etc.?

I think Ron's difficulty in finding things may be because he is still new to the forum. I just tried to find a buch of stuff and was able to easily. I attribute that to being around here for a while.

I'll prolly get beat for saying this, but I am active on the ford truck enthusiast site as well. It still takes a while for me to find things there because I don't always know where to look. Familliarity (is that even a word) is the key to getting around a website. I think our search functions work pretty good.

I guess I should just remember Boyink and I layed out the site so we should know where everything is, I forget just how BIG this site is since I know it as if it were my own website. ;)

I need to remind myself of that when new folks come along...

I really can't imagine an easier way to organize the static (tech section) pages.

The difficulty comes up, I think, because so much of the site's valuable content is in old forum threads rather than in those pages -- it's the having to weed through the 24 responses in one thread looking for the 1 that's of value to you.

I've always thought it would be ideal to have someone grabbing the valuable stuff from discussion threads and organizing it under the tech section structure...but it would be a very time consuming and on-going job.

The other idea is (and I don't know if vBulletin has this) is to use meta-tagging on the threads so help them show up better in searches, or show up in predetermined searches using the tech section terms. But again, it would involve a human editor adding the right text "tags" to the threads in order to make those connections.

The other end of the pipe to look at - is there any way to capture the search terms being entered here in forums? Sometimes you can use that data as input for better navigation.

I can capture the search terms entered for the Tech section, could poke around and see what to find for the vBulletin maybe if I had more time.

I was just asking. I can't figure a better way but thought I'd ask.

Metatagging would be GREAT but next to impossible. And grabbing stuff from here for the tech section is way too time consuming. I did it for one or two things, that was the end of that. :p

Sparky what if you set up a new form. Called it something like "Hot Topics". Then when a thread was determined to be fairly common or something that we might want to reference and once all the basics of the subject had been covered, then one of the moderators or admins whichever term applies, could grab it and move it the "Hot Topics" forum, then lock it.

I can be of absolutely no assistance in helping with ideas to make information easier to find.

However, as a fairly new person here myself I agree with Boyink's comment about the information being buried in threads and having to look for the one comment that is of value. It can be particularly daunting over dial-up. I have the luxury of broadband and can zip thru fairly rapidly. I bookmark threads I plan to revisit in the future and hope you don't move them before I really need the information.

I have noticed as other new people join the forum they may ask a question that we have seen many times and the new members are quickly asked to do a search. Some members provide links to the appropriate thread which is very helpful to all. I know it has to be frustrating to see repeated information requests when you know the question has been asked and answered. I know some people would rather ask than search, and some may have difficulty searching.

For example, in the short period time I have been a member here, I have seen people ask where to get 11" backing plates quite a number of times and I have posted where I got mine at least three times. On the other hand, that information isn't very static as they are kinda hard to find.

I currently spend a lot of time watching this site and greatly enjoy the technical information that is given and I also enjoy seeing the good-natured ribbing passed about from the personal friendships many of you have formed over the years.

I do hope you creative types can find a way to help everyone, especially those new to the site, find the gems of knowledge packed away in the archives of banter that is so much fun to us all. I suspect there are quite a few frequently asked topics that could be identified in addition to the tech section that would help people find what they are looking for.

The new postings of saginaw installations I feel are particularly helpful as well as the new before and after photo gallery. I hope some year to be able to add to that one. Many of us know what we want to do, and if we can see how others have done it, the process is considerably easier.

    Monkey see, monkey do.

    My long-winded opinion,

    Thanks

    JC

    Thanks Billy!

Sparky, I have no trouble searching for stuff, except when I search for something and it comes back empty, meaning there's nothing on that subject. The Tech section is just fine, IMO. The nuggets I spoke of are usually links to other sites, vendors I've never heard of, photos people post, things like that. I've gotten lots of great info and reference photos here, just what I'm looking for. Most times I just forget to search first and ask my question without looking first.

This site is great as is...don't change a thing!
