after some searching i still have a couple questions on fuel line replacement and routing. i am swapping in a '76-86 15 gal tank.

from what i understand i should use 5/16 brake line from flaps, route along frame rail to engine.

first question is what is the best way to tie the line to the frame?

second, people have mentioned flaring the lines. i was pretty much thinking it would be a straight shot to the engine and use hose to connect to the hard lines at the engine and tank. are there places where a hard connection is needed?

    thanks, chris

Chris when I put mine back together in May I ran all soft line, the hard line was looking like alot of trouble so I went with standard fuel line. If you want to run hard lines see if you can find the little metal or plastic clips that snap into the holes in the frame rail and then you snap the hard line into clips on the sides.

I've had a few people tell me that running a long piece of flexible fuel line like that is funky, but I've had no problems with it going on a few years now.

i went with hard lines down the frame rails tied down like mcruff said, but used rubber ends when connecting it up to anything. it might be me being over cautious, but i don't want any conections made to something that could potentially move wihtout the rubber in there to take the blow, i just had images of a line crack or something down the road.

but, it you want to connct things right up you'd neer to flare it going into the fuel pump. as for the tank, i can't quite remember, but i think you'll have to connect with a little rubber peice.

ok, for the rear tank ('78 install i have the following measurements for fuel lines.

    1" fill hose
    3/4" vent hose
    1/4" @ tank to 5/16" @ fuel pump
    3/16" return @ tank to 5/16" @ fuel pump

the return line is 3/16" at the tank and 5/16" at the fuel pump. i assume they make an adapter so i can run 5/16" line and connect it to the 3/16" tube? or does it matter since there won't be much pressure so it won't leak? the 1/4" tube @ the sending unit seems to fit 5/16" hose just fine.

    thanks, chris
