Has anyone got any experience/opinions about powdercoating a Jeep frame and the other chassis parts, instead of painting them?

I've found a sandblaster here in Denver that works with a powdercoater in Colorado Springs, and they tell me I can get the frame blasted for about $125, and powdercoated for $115. Hell, I don't think I could paint it for $115, and the powdercoater drives up from Co. Springs to get the parts and then delivers them back.

I think it's a great deal, but I'd like to hear from y'all about opinions of powdercoating a frame, axle housings, springs, steering parts, etc.

    Thanks!

    Ron

I PC'd the frt bumper, draw bar, tow bar/tire carrier, roll cage, and misc other stuff.
I was happy with the "never paint again" option.
The only caution would be to maybe slightly enlarge any holes that bolts will go back thru before PC; the PC will make the ID of the holes smaller to where you might have to run a drill thru them and could chip/damage the PC during this process; so do it before the PC.
Some folks here have had wheels done and have said that rust can come back in the tight spots.
    YMMV

Just be sure your done with the work you want to do on the jeep... Mods to a powder coated frame is a PITA. I have one now and would never do it again.

Do you know the name of the powder coater? Living just out side the Springs it's good to know if there is a new one doing things here.

No experience w/ powder coat, but I have heard (read on the board here) that powder coated frames will hide small cracks as well as look cruddy if it is chipped or damaged. I used POR 15 as it seemed easier and cheaper than powder coat and could do it myself.

Warloch....not sure how long they've been in business, but I found an article on powdercoating on a Google search that mentioned them, and it was dated 1997.

Sand blasted and powder coated for UNDER $250? What are you waiting for? I'd go for it!

    Warloch,

I think they may be geared more to commercial apps. than to folks like us, but I'm not sure, I haven't been there yet. I talked to the guy yesterday, and he said he makes a trip to Denver every Thursday to get parts from the sandblaster, and bring back parts he's finished. I know the sandblaster advertises as specializing in auto restorations. Maybe the powdercoater just does car/bike parts through the sandblaster as a sideline. I know the powdercoaters around Denver are outrageous.
