    i got all my stuff set up and fired the jeep up again to play with my power steering only to be let down again. soo, the possible culprits are the steering box and the pump. here's my questions:

    1)how much fluid should be coming out of the pump? if i remove the return line should there be a mess really quick, or should it gently flow out (and increase with speed?)

    2)do you bleed the box by just turning the wheel back and forth while on an incline?

    3) should there be noticable fluid movement in the pump while the jeep is turned on?

    that's all i can think of for now, but if you guys know of any questions which i should have asked and just didn't think things through enough go ahead and post up the answer (and the question please...).

    it just figured the OBA worked withouta problem, but the thing i really need to be working caused some issues. it somehow seems to always work that way.

    edit::
    gonna go ahead and say it's a pump from a 76ish regal if i recall correctly and a box from an 82 cj7, if that has anything to do with the problem

    Pressure line should provide a lot of fluid ie big mess in a hurry. I had to change fluid in mine cause I got water in it. (Don't ask me how heh! heh!) I turned it back and forth, but it apprently didn't bleed the air out. I walked away, came back at it the next day and it was fine. It apparently bled itself. Go figure. I was on level ground, but I guess if you had it nose up it might make a difference.

    To bleed it I've always jacked the front tires off the ground and went from lock to lock a couple of times.

    I bled mine just by turning it lock to lock with the motor running, bled out in about 10-15 seconds. You should call me and we could have a work day.

    DONE!!! the pump was missing te check valve in the back. replaced that and had a big mess in no time flat (high side fell out of the resvoir when i cranked it up). i figure i'll pull it up my driveway a bit to put it on a slope and turn the wheels back and forth a couple times to bleed it.

    only got to set the toe and bleed some brakes and i'll be on the road again!! but man oh man this was a big ole learning curve. everything was a little bit different than what i expected which kept adding days and days.

    thanks to everyone who helped out along the way. i'm sure all the stupid questions got old at some point..
