I've got what I think is a Myers 1/2 cab. Two questions:

#1- What type and size of bolts or screws should the top mnt. to the windshield with?

#2- Should this top fit with the windshield channel in place? (the top sheet metal curves gently downward until it's on the same plane as the windshield)

    Thanks for any help! Jim

Somebody referred me to Beachwood Canvas Company in Island Heights, NJ. They deal w/up to '71 and whatever fits up to the '75's.
They responded very promptly and offered to send me a catalog even though my '74 only could use (1) part in their whole shop.

My Jeep mechanic uses them for military applications & they may be able to advise you on the hardtop hardware.

They are online, sorry I don't have the site address handy.

    Boyink,

Does about 400 bucks sound too steep for a 1/2 cab softie for my '74? That's about what I paid for my Besttop 18 yrs. ago. Now full tops are $700.00

ps: I'm getting a portable canvas/leather machine given to me!

    That a Beachwood price?

FWIW I priced out the full "covered wagon" style canvas for my Bantam from them. They wanted $800. I bought it from New Life Resources for $175.

What does Beechwood have to do with a Meyer steel cab?

IIRC the front edge is held by sheet metal screws with big, flat heads, like flattened pan head screws. The windshield channel does not come off - the edge of the cab rests against it.

The 1/2 cab is the same as the full cab wrt the windsield mounting, so someone with a Meyer steel cab could confirm and take some pictures. I've installed a few of these, but it was a long time ago.

Yes, they told me the manufacturing company was out of biz & they had 1 left on the shelves. It sounds like it may have been in storage for a bit, like the top I'm running now.
I'll have to look up New Life. Do they have a site? Was it a canvas or naugahyde top? I prefer naugahyde. I've spent too many nights in canvas (& even modern nylon) tents where my partner didn't know the No1 rule - "Never leave anything against the canvas & don't ever touch it in the rain".
I'll eventually be converting my '78 windshiled back to the '74 style and will need to sink some $$ into tops.
    Thanks for the info.

IIRC - The original top on my Jeep was attached to the W/S frame with screws that were surprisingly small... Probably #8's. Either 4 or 5 of them.

If you really think of it, there's not much pressure there. The upward force of the wind is small since there is no "lip" for the air to catch.

My Meyers full cab mounts just above the channel on the windshield frame, practically resting on the top of the channel. As to what is supposed to be used to attach it, I don't really know. I drilled my windshield frame and mounted some rivet on insterts to the inside. I just use bolts that go through the top, through the outer layer of the windsield frame, and into the inserts. Works good for me!

Thanks for the info. Tim! And for getting this thread back on topic. :) I'm a G-503 guy and deal with Beachwood occasionally for parts for my 43 MB. But, they have little to offer in the way of CJ parts or info.
