Well i got my new chain today, tonight i will do this part of the install. I have heard stories of plastic teeth and such, is this the tensioner on some motors? The tensioner on mine is actually a nice spring and foot setup that is not cheap at all looking. Do i retain this tensioner or does it go away when i install the edelbrock timing chain? The directions in the box do not indicate anything about a tensioner.

With Edelbrock chains its suppose to come off, keep it in a safe place so if you ever need it again.
The plastic teeth are the timing gears themselves, they are made of aluminum and coated in a type of nylon, there called silent chains, the plastic has a tendency to come off and end up in the oil pan or pump pickup, mine were in good shape other than the chain was stretched pretty good.
