It's a bit smaller than 2 1/8", probably 2 1/16". I used to get away the 2 1/8" 12 -point socket, but they make a specialty tool for hub nuts for different makes.. They're more necessary for Ford inner hubs.

Regular socket walls are too thick to fit in the hub I've found. You might find one but you'll have to grind the edges down.

I suggest just buying the spindle nut socket.

And you'll spend about 1/4 the amount on the specialty tool vs. a socket that big...

This socket is a New Britain NH1268, US Made & thin enough to do hubs. I don't know what the model number would be for the 2 1/16".

It also came in handy at work, so the socket had at least dual purposes, but good point about the costs, as long as the specialty tool is good quality steel to last a few lifetimes. Some of the Ford sockets I've seen are pure garbage.

Local Trails West 4x4 shop said they have in stock $19.99 which seems high to me but no shipping cost and no waiting. The guy on the phone said he thought it was 2 1/8 but wasn't sure. Has to be the same he said it fit up to 85 or 86 CJ models.

Not a bad price, depending on country of manufacture & warranty?
    Measure the nut, it's 2 1/16".
