There isn't any. Before 1976, all the factory radios have hung below the dash. In fact, I think it's a dealer-installed item only. Jeep had lots of trouble at that time with items getting stolen off of Jeeps in transit by rail.

Some people cut a radio slot in the dash to the bottom & left of the wheel.
I have a cut out there, but my rollcage tube crosses it. It's still handy for getting a second hand to the fuse box/underdash wires.
I'm working on an overhead waterproof set-up based on an old plastic drill case.

I mounted mine in the center console, I couldn't cut up a unmolested dash. Could get some pics if you want.

I have mine mounted in the traditional place, low, in the center of the dash. It's only a tape deck right now, but there are plans in the works for a CD player. I don't have any pics of it, but it is tight in there.

Since I primarily use the radio (out of a GM van) to amp my satilite radio I mounted mine in the glove compartment. Out of sight out of mind. I'm puttin an aluminum plate over the old radio cut out and mounting the XM car kit base to it. The XM radio itself snaps in and out of the base. I use the same radio head in my motorhome, on my BMW motorcycle, the boat and now the jeep.
I bought the radio on e-bay for $9 and it doesn't look like it had ever been used.

There are overhead mounting kits. Some even come complete with "zoned" stereo speakers so that the driver gets L & R channels as well as the passenger. they aren't cheap.

I'm still thinking about my set-up & since I have a front hoop & cross tubes for my rollcage, it will probably take advantage of the full width between the croos-tubes.
Like I said, save your old plastic cases for your power tools, I have one for a 3/8" drill that my AM/FM/CD/CDRW will fit in. My CB is waterproof & has gone about 15 yrs. without being stolen - too much work for a 40 buck CB.
You can also go to a marine store & get all sorts or waterproof enclosures. I have some starboard (bucco bucks) left from mating on the Grady White & that will more than likely be my main mounting board.

I want to Baja-style mount a double or triple clamped stud to hold a 12.5&33X15" tire on my main rollbar piece (probably with a few cantilever supoports), so that will also be a limiting factor.

Look through some owner pics & see what's available store-bought, get a tape measure, sketch pad & a pencil w/lots of erasers & start a design.
You may even come up with something patentable, I have over the years.

ps: I have an old Sony CDAX10 shockproof, waterproof 10-stack remote mounted CD player with an extra 10-stack magazine if you know anybody who wants one. It has a connector for AM/FM or whatever to tie into the remote control system & amp. I ran it bi-amped in my '88 Monte SS, with passive resistors to only allow treble to crossover to the front. It was probably about 435 watts total. An in-looker would see nothing if you stashed the remote.

Thanks guys. Tim, now that you mention it, I didn't have a radio or cut-out in my new 74. Niether did any of my jeepin buddys. I put in a Kraco 8-track as I recall!

It wasn't until I got my new 79 with that sweet 304 that I was able to enjoy the in-dash radio and heater controls. Sure wish I had the in-dash controls in the 74 I have now !!!

I've got a line on a NOS AM radio w/ speaker and hardware still in the box for $100. Think I'll snatch it up. Never did like that 8-track anyway !!

Here is a link to my set-up:

Flush mounted the CB above the CD player in an aluminum diamond plate face plate. When I bought the '6 the glove box and door were not in it, so I used the opening this way.

My wife is generally on board so she can run the electronics while I drive :)

Someone asked for pics of my radio installation,

Hole cut through lid of ammo can.

Note the plastic spacers to take up the room between the stereo and the side of the can.
