yeah the filter can bleep out things. I think the little snubber on the hood is the factory thing. You could find a set of early CJ5 brackets to hold the windsiheld above the hood, or make something like that, or even hood blocks like the flatfenders.

I'd replicate the original setup with a footman loop on the hood and one in the w/s frame. A strap goes from one to the other to hold the w/s down.

Never drive without it tied down, however you do that. Don't know about the windshield for sure but the hood will definitely fly up on you. Made that mistake, by accident. Not good. I wouldn't want to see what windshield would do...... hood was bad enough.

get a footmans loop & a good canvas strap or an old boyscout belt & convert the buckle to a standard horseshoe w/a pin & grometted holes. Stay away from velcro or snaps.

    gj

ps: I assumed that you had a footmans loop on your windshield. You need 1 on the inside windshield edge - (there may be holes there) & 1 for the hood.

This is the best pic I have, converting an M38A1 hood to work with an intermediate w/s. The two loops shown catch the w/s. The empty holes closest into the w/s are where the loop goes that you're after.

The holes furthest out were for a loop that held the hood in the open position on the early Jeeps - it engaged a latch on the early w/s frame.

I'm using a TJ bumper to rest the hood on when up.

I just reversed one hood hinge & can now take the whole hood off of my '74 CJ5. I need bungee at times on uneven ground or she'll slide off to the left. It comes in handy because I mounted my winch control box on the inside right fender well. I have access to that & the choke rod for setting a higher idle while winching. Jeep also stays a bit cooler.

the good and the bad ...

good .. found the places in the hood and the windsheild where the loops use to be ..

bad ... the hold in the hood are filled in ... but i can re drill them out ... and also the place in the windsheild looks like thats where the guy put the rear view mirror... and i guess i have to have one of them to be street worthy

i guess im gonna have to design a quick change out thing to switch from the rear view mirror and the metal loop ... any suggestions lol ?

The rearview should glue to the windshield. Here in the Great Police State of NJ, I go through private inspection, so I don't have to worry about having the factory interior rearview, but I run dual exterior mirrors, which are legal. Go cipher...
If you cannot put the tiedown in the centre, Why don't you set up 2 sets of tiedowns to each side of centre. My windshield stops are the original coated u-bolts. If you get a view of them (like Boyink's, but further out)., go inwards of each of them
about 1/2 foot and out to the correct footman distance, then build your tie downs. This should even work with visors, and the visors will help to hold & hide the straps.
I remember times when a second tiedown would have come in handy.

It's worth it if you like being in the wind.

    gj

ps: no matter what type of cyanoacrylic you use to glue the rearview mount onto the windshield, it will vibrate off pretty quickly & if it is a good bond, you risk chipping the glass when it pulls off. I still have one or 2 original rearview assemblies.

i use to ride alot when i was younger ... good pair of inpact proof millitary desert goggles and a hankerchif around the mouth and nose ... i know some places the law says you have to have a windsheild in place ... but i think its kinda dumb seeing most bikes dont have one ... unless you want one ... i think they are silly ill i will have to look up on the laws here in missouri ..

From a 19 yr. Hog rider, yes, I had my industrial safety glasses on & rode on the h'way w/my shield down. I even carried a helmet in case I got stopped for a good court argument. I don't think it's legal unless you're wearing olive drab & in a convoy.

A downside of being in the wind is a severe case of dry eyes for life . I didn't mind eating bugs, but it's not a prerequisite to being a man. Fairings & windshields are nice in 10F weather.

This is a '73? IIRC that year Jeep used the same interior mirror as on a '70, '71 or '72, with a steel block that screws to the windshield frame. The universal glue-on mirror should work fine though, if you don't care about being 100% authentic.

yea the one i have screws in ... i was just thinging on putting the windsheild tie down loops on the eather end of the windsheild and on the hood and roll with it that way .. i think one on each side is better than just one in the middle ... im not looking for it to be super correct ... im not gonna turn it into a rock crawler but i want it to be reasonable nice off road thanks
