I searched forever but didn't find any info on this one.

I would like to move my pedal a little higher and closer to the firewall if possible. i know the pedal assembly is pretty hard to replace if i screw it up so i wanted to get some advise first before i mess with it.

so, anybody do anything similar and want to share their experiance?
i am thinking it is a pretty easy cut/weld/bend situation but i might be
    wrong.

i did read that some are using a floor mounted pedal with a cable setup... i might be interested in trying that instead, but i do like the way it "feels" now, it's just at a bad angle for my foot.

    thanks, chris

I know what you mean. I used a pedal out of a '84 Nisson Sentra. I screwed it to one of the floor plate bolts.

i guess there is nothing written about it because it is such a simple thing to do.

i took off the pedal tonight and discovered that it is just a simple allen screw holding it in. i can easily cut the tube wherever i want and then bend it out to a good angle.

with this mod, combined with the wheelhouse mod i will be in JEEP heaven! no more leg cramps in the middle of the trail...

    yep, it was real easy.

just cut it at the bend which was about 4". then bent it back about an inch so the pedal would not hit the floor. took the dremal and flattened out a little spot and then drilled a small hole for the allen bolt to seat into.

that's it, took about 15 min

    MUCH BETTER

    thanks, chris

Along the lines of throttle, when I put the Offy Dual Port & Holley 390 Comp. (trash) on my '74 232, I managed to match an Escort throttle cable perfectly. It was expensive back around '83. They can probably had at a boneyard now.
I switched back to my stock intake & Carter YF SB, an unbeatable combination offroad

i'll post some tomorrow for you... just saw your post.

it still isn't as comfortable as i would like but it is much better then it was.
one thing is that it takes a lot more force now to move the pedal so i need to get a lighter spring for the accelerator linkage.

Yup, I've fought with the accelerater peddle in my Jeep for years. Finally got it tolerable, but after 4 or 5 hours straight it starts cramping my ankle....

I had to go from scratch on my jeep it was all gone. I used a later model (76-86) pedal assembly, took out the pin that held the plastic pedal on, shortened the steel rod some, bent it a little different, and redrilled a hole for the pin to reattach the plastic pedal. It then bolted to the firewall, and used a stock jeep accel cable, I think from a 258. It has to make a loop inside the engine compartment before it attaches to the carb/throttle linkage, but not much I can figure to do about that. I had a round hole in the firewall, so I got a small piece of flat steel, cut and filed a square hole in it for the accel cable to plug into and bolted it in over the round hole. It is a little stiff to push but overall came out good. I will be able to post pics in about 2 weeks if you would like to see it.

Oh yeah forgot to add that after doing such work, with the motor off, floor the pedal and make sure the carb goes to wide open, otherwise you could limit your power and not know it. Also test carefully to make sure it does not bind. Mine did at one point and would stick when I put it to the floor. I had a few tense moments and some funny stares as you can imagine.
