Sorry for all the questions I ave been having...but here are two more.

On my 61 CJ5, there is no oil filter...Is this "normal"? Where does this connect to the motor? Without an oil filter, I plan on changing the oil more often, if I cant get one for it...Anyone have any good pictures of where one should go?

Also, on the passengers side of the motor, there is a drain plug with a tube and a valve...what is this used for? Any ideas?

    Thanks....

The F-head came with an oil filter, it should sit on the passenger side bolted to the top of the cylinder head. Its the orange canister in the photo.
Oh this is not my motor, it is one of our members motors after a rebuild a couple of years ago, I cannot remember whose it is but the motor looks nice so I saved it. The valve is probably to drain the antifreeze and the water out of the block, ask one of the members like Billy or Glenn they'll know for sure.

This motor has the same drain plug between the distributor and the oil fill tube...any idea what that is for?

if you are after the original look, buy it. Otherwise just buy a remote oil filter mount(spin on) and make life easier. It is a bypass system only.

I wouldn't waste the money on the crappy reproduction hoses that most of the Jeep parts houses sell. The quality is really poor, and I've had two hoses fail on me (same hose, twice) in very short order. I ended up having a set of hoses made up locally and they've held up just fine.

When you install it just don't twist up the hoses like the picture- check out the kink at the bottom of the filter housing! oil flows better thru a non-kinked hose.

Do you have to replace the cartridge or can they be cleaned?

Replace them, never clean these types of filter cartridges.

I have a '61 also with no oil filter. I'm leaving it alone and plan on changing the oil more often.
