66cj5 seems to think that a 2.5" lift has already been installed on this jeep. What do you guys think?

All the better if it is true, as I wanted one anyways. More time/money that can be spent on something else!

Need a point of reference... Either someone standing beside it, or a tire size.

Judging by Billy's picture, I'd say no - it doesn't appear to be lifted. Notice that billy's tires are much larger than the ones you have on the A1. Yet he seems to have as much (or more) clearance between the tire and rear fender. He is running a 2.5" lift and 34" tires.

Hard to tell by the pic. It looks like the front springs have a pretty good arch to them. More than stock at least. Of course with no engine in it it will sit up higher. Another picture at a differnt angle where you can see the springs would help.

Hard to tell, BUT most stock springs dont seem to have that much arch in them. How many leaves are in the front? My A1 has like 12 or 13 leaves in them and my 2 1/2" have I think 6. hth

Ok, just took a tape measure, pen and paper, and ran outside......
The tires are 7.00-16 Mud & Snows, and stand 29.5" tall. The front and rear leaf springs each have 5 and 9 leaves respectively.

No lift, the Jeep has probably set long enough with no weight that the springs have relaxed and lifted the frame a little on there one.

5 in the front and 9 in the back. Doesn't sound like stock to me.

Hmmm, so if I counted correctly, I have two "aye" votes, six "nay" votes, and two "dunnos". I would say that the "nays" have it, but then along comes a comparison picture showing a set of leaves that are radically different than what I have. :? I would imagine that the springs I have would have a MUCH better ride quality than the originals.

I think I'll put the lift kit and 33's on the back burner for the time being. The shackels and u-bolts all appear to be new underneath, so I'm gonna assume *all* the suspension components have bee swapped out recently. I'll just go with a good set of 30x9.5's for now.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

They might not have been swaped. Mine had the same 9 leave pack in the rear there was an 11? leave pack option. Also it looks like someone painted them recently. I would pull the leaves off and check them for cracks. When I got mine it looked like I had no cracked leaves. I went to clean them up and all 4 main leaves broke in half  good thing I did not find that out driving down the road.

edit: I was like you and did not have the motor in the jeep which I think is what hid the cracks.

I would check the leaves out but hold off on the lift. After you get most of it back together you can take some height measurements and compare them to what others have. Your right about the M38A1 not riding so well with the 11 leaf spring pack but that just adds to the whole experience, right? That's what I tell myself anyway.

I wouldn't think that Uncle Sugar would have spec'd these thing out with TWO different types of leaf springs, but who knows? Perhaps this one was set up to ride smoother for some five-star General or something. ;)
