of course my new engine is leaking oil so i need some help deciding what to do about it. i have turned the bolt back in the corner about 1/8 turn and could probably go more but if i break that bolt off i think i will have a heart attack and break lots of stuff in the garage

here is a pic, it is in the back pass corner of the engine, where the head meets the block. the oil drips down and hits the starter and driveshaft. the engine is dry around my new valve cover gasket which was leaking a bit at first so of course i just thought this leak was oil dripping down from there.

    well it still leaks

think i might try tightening a little more and then i guess i will leave it alone for awhile and see if it seals itself up.

i just let it idle and watched it pool up and start dripping. not too much, maybe 4 drips in 15 min or so, but again that is just at idle. it really looks like it is coming from right there where it pools up but it is very difficult to tell. it might come from a little further up but still from the bottom of the head.

Chris, you haven't given us enough information. Where is the leak? What components are involved? The cylinder head, the intake manafold, the oil pan? From what perspective did you take that picture?

Check the corner of the valve cover gasket. Some of these heads have angled surfaces at the back of the head, and if the valve cover is not angled as well, it will leak.

pic was taken laying on the ground looking straight up. you can see the starter and part of the driveshaft in the pic. obviously i am having a little trouble finding the exact source for the leak so i can't answer that question yet.

i will check again as this is the most likely place for a leak. :coffee:

    thanks, chris

Looks like it might be leaking between head and block at the gasket

well, yes it does look like that although i am not 100% sure.

what would you do if your engine had a leak there? i am not really willing to take off the head at this point, and i am pretty sure that is a new gasket in there.

    thanks, chris

Mine leaked at the right rear of the head after rebuilding the engine. The only way I got it stopped was a new head gasket with ARP head bolts. ARP's tech people found the bolts that were close but I had to have 25 thou. machine off for a proper seal.
