Those of us with clutch chatter and leaking remain seals have a lot of work ahead of us. I read the manual today (copy right 1977 one) and apparently replacing the remain oil seal is not that easy. For one thing you can only replace the lower rope seal by remove the bearing cap. Replacing the top rope seal requires dropping the crankshaft. Also the lower bearing cap has two neopreen seal on either side of it that also must be replaced.
Is it sufficient to relace just the lower bearing cap seals? Way back in my memory i thought I saw a tool that would permit you to change the top seal. It was a piece of fine steel cable that had a wire cage on the end that would grip the seal when it was placed over it. I assume that you pushed the oil seal out enough to grab it with pliers and pull it out, then threaded the steel cable with the new seal griped in the wire cage and then pulled the new seal through.
