How do I get this bugger off? Is there a special puller I should look for? I tried 2 different sizes with jaws and nutin'. I have an idea there is a special puller I should ask for.

I need to get the shiffters off and change the shift rail seals and the front output seals

    Thanks,

i have had good luck with a steering wheel puller, i have a cheapie one at home and have removed a bunch of them. Also when using the puller, tap on the yoke to break free.

Sometimes the flat washer behind the nut gets deformed and kinda gets stuck on the shaft. I used a prybar to get mine off. It actually should'nt take much force.

Get a piece of 1/4" thick angle, or some other hefty piece, and drill 3 holes. The 2 outside ones line up with opposite corners in the yoke where the u joint straps go, and one dead center tapped for a big ol' fine thread bolt. Oil the bolt liberally, put a small scrap washer or something on top of the shaft (to keep from boogering it up), run the bolt down, and have at with the impact wrench.

    I guess that's a steering wheel puller I described.....

Heat worked wonders for removing my yokes - and most any stubborn part. Got a torch? Just plan on replacing the seals as you're likely gonna burn them up if you use heat.

Thanks guys. I just had to walk away from it tis morning.

I don't have any heat here in my garage but I do have air. I found an easy way is to vibrate it with pressure on it.

There a wash in there? I'm going to look right now. :D

I bought a nice steering wheel puller and after soaking it for a while the front yoke popped of.

I've been trying to get the front piece off (with the shifters) and it looks like the only way is to disassemble the t-box. Is there any other way before I start to disassemble? Everything looks OK inside.

The sliding gear in the tranny looks a little rounded. Is this too beat to reuse? It's not as bad is the tranny in the Willys now.
