I've read a few times about not getting a quick ratio power steering box. I wanted to put in my .02 cents. My brother and I have quick ratio boxes in our Jeeps. I haven't really dove my Jeep very much to find out how it work. After doing some hard 4 wheel'in yesterday in my brother M38a1. I realized that I would rather have the quick ratio box. I know it is a little to fast for the freeway, but nothing one could get used to. I found that if you ever go down the side of a mountain and winding though trees. You'll find that you are turning the steering wheel quite a bit. That quick ratio box really comes in handy. Especially when you have too back up a few times just to make a really sharp switch back.

Two turns lock to lock. What do you think?

Go for it. Give it a shot, worst case you change that out for a Waggy box.

After installing a 3 1/2 turn lock to lock box and using it at Tellico and driving it the 175 miles from the house to there, you'll never drive it on the street and there won't be any getting used to it, especially at speeds above 40 mph. I even left my large stock steering wheel on for control.
Scott the wheelbase is just to short for a fast ratio box, I can drive mine at 70 on the interstate and it feels confortable and I can turn it lock to lock in heavy rocks with one finger, the number of turns in the woods and rocks is a mute point in my opinion, but it does make a huge difference on the street at speed. My steering with 31" tires and a 2 1/2" lift is totally effortless and I mean that literaly.
You can try it but you'll be swapping it more than likely in 6 weeks or less, especially if you drive it on the street at all.

i agree with mike esp safety wise. (but then i AM the designated site paranoid)

i haven't taken mine up to 70 mph yet. not sure i will. but with an 81' wheel base, a 54" tread and 31" tires i feel much better with slower steering.
the extra turns in switch backs, trees etc don't bother me esp with power steering.
let's just say i simply don't like unexpected lane changes when i sneeze.

Been there - had that - we even would unhook the pump and try to run that on the street, just too scarry. Personally, I like at least 4 turns lock to lock.

did you find that when you installed the 4 turn lock to lock box that really only had about 3.5 or 3.3 lock to lock? this is what happened to mine. i am using the pitman that came with a ps on a 75 cj5

I think it's because of the factory rec setting of 27* turning limit on the ecj 5.

I'll sneek this in here has anyone used a 6 turn manual box? I was also wondering how many actualy turns you end up with. The pitman arm I have seams quite long so I doubt I'll end up with 6 turns but it is the ratio that makes the differance on the road I understand.

Zed - No, the numbers I gave was installed numbers. I have a new setup on the '51 that I will have to measure, just have not done that yet.
