now that i have the new engine in i am wanting to get the carb dialed in for high altitude. today i got everything adjusted good and then went up to around 8000 ft or so and of course it started running too rich.

i don't want to change jets everytime i go up so i need a good middle ground size. i am thinking 49s to start with but i guess it all depends on what i can find. what was the spec? 47 high alt, 49 mid alt and 51 stock? i need to find out what is on there since it is a reman carb i have no idea what they thought was stock. i have a set of 51s and 57s from some extra carbs that are sitting in the garage.

so has anyone found a source for jets? there are a few pull a part yards around... what's a good vehicle to pull from?

i found one online source for jets and am wondering if anyone has tried them... looks like they make their own so i don't know about quality.

I'm still wanting to lean mine out...... I *think* I have 48s, and I haven't been able to find anything smaller......

I bought Motorcraft jets from Parker Carburetion... he says that he has Rochester jets, but none are pictured on his site.

If you're really stuck, jets can be drilled out. If you need to make them smaller, solder them closed then drill. Best to use a pin vise and a sharp (new!) drill.

You can also lower your float and lean out the mixture - less hydrostatic pressure reduces the flow.

Chris, you have the jet specs right.
most of my junking trips have resulted in larger jets, not smaller.
This outfit seems to have what many here have asked about: JETS !
for $12 a pair, seems worth a try
I'm going to try them myself !

thanks guys, i might try this place also. they make them from .040-.090 so it looks like we can go as lean (or super rich) as we want...

You are making me wonder.... I live at 8000 ft, and have driven this heap up to above 12,000 without issue. I know I swapped them for some slightly smaller ones stolen from a Chev 307....Do not remember what size they were....

I might get a chance this coming weekend to pop the top and find out for ya.
