Hey guys. Quick question. How much diference in height will my jeep change from 31X10.50X15s to 33X10.50X15s. Will my jeep be raised 2 more inches or 1". There's a garage height question in play here. Also what would be the benefits of going to a taller tire? I'm keeping the same width just going from 31" to 33". The price difference is (all BFG ATs) $124 for 31's, $134 for 32's and $139 for 33's. So a $60 difference for 2" bigger tires. Or should I go 33X9.50X15s for $136.
I've had these BFG AT's on my Jeep for 12 years and they are done. These are all Costco prices I can't seem to find them cheaper with install and disposal.
    Thanks

Cooper ATs are cheaper and just as good or better. I purchased a set of 4 Cooper MT (same tread as the BFG) in 31X10.5X15 for $400 installed.

Coopers are a good tire, they don't have the same sidewall strength though and they lack the sizes that Mark is enquiring about.

The Goodyear MT/R has that 3 ply sidewall but are probably more expensive than the BFG. I remember someone else having that new 3 ply radial sidewall as well, but for the life of me I cannot recall. If I can think of who I'll post it.

Well your speedo will be off by more then it is now. your steering will be under more stress your butt will be 1" higher off the ground so your center of gravity will raise 1" making your side hill angle less your engine will turn slower for the same mph if you have the Hp to push the taller tires your jeep will not have as low of effective gear ratio your jeep will accelerate slower due to the higher effective gear ratio. you will need more air to fix a flat. the tires will wiegh more causing your upsprung weight to incress which will effect your braking distance negitivly.

there are other things but these come to mind.

Oh your pumpkins will cross over a 1" taller rock without scraping

Billy What is the "the spirt of the BB"?

everything I told him if true is it not? why would you have me tell him something untrue?

I'm confused did he not ask to know what difference these taller tires would have on his jeep?

I think he's saying that each modification can have a negative as well as a positive affect on the jeep. Yes bigger tires and rims mean more ground clearance which negatively affects the center of gravity but the wider track is a positive. You get better ground clearance but it's harder to get into and tell the ladies to forget skirts unless you will personally assist! The tires and wheels weigh more meaning increased stopping distances but wider tires grip better on dry pavement. Wider tires have a larger surface area to slip on wet and snowy conditions though.
Before you make any changes think it out because there are positives and negatives. It can be expensive to make a mistake so think it out and ask for help here. These guys are great and have lots of experience.

Mark A. asked a very direct question about the tire size. He has 31's and he's not new to Jeeps. I'm sure he's aware of the negative aspects of larger tires as we all are here. He didn't ask about that.

Given past issues with some individuals who tend to "look down" on modifications the manner in which the post is presented is an issue here. So we (the moderators and admins) are a bit gunshy when people start posting stuff like that when that's not part of the question. Mark did not ask "What effect will larger tires have on my Jeep"...

does your local tire place have both? maybe a side by side compare before you buy.

Sorry I read more into his question then was there. As to looking down on modifications I could careless what someone does to modify their Jeep. As to his experiance with Jeep I had no way to know anything about that not having a history with the poster and having only joined this forum a couple weeks ago.

As to past issues again having just joined I have no knowledge of this problem.

I just listed those things I knew would be an issue if changing tire size. I did this in a few minutes before going off to bed. So it might not have been as polished as if I had had more time to write it.

    I guess I learned
