I have just started rebulding my jeep, 71' CJ5 with a 225 V-6. My question that I hope someone out there might know the answer to concerns the main bearings. Of the four bearings one is obviously the torque bearing and will only fit #2. The remaining three are interchangable between #1, being the water pump end, #3 and #4. The confussion is that of the three one of the bearings only has a partial oil race while the other two have complete oil races. Where does the bearing with the partial oil race go? Any help would be great. :flag:

the bearings ARE NOT interchangeable, they have been linebored to keep the crank centered in the block. mine where all different. pics would help id the cap.

Are these new bearings? Could one be the wrong bearing? or defective? The caps are not interchangeable, but the bearings, if they are new, are interchangeable, somewhat. FSM may indicate where the one bearing goes that's different.

    from the FSM:
"thrust bearing #2 position, second seat from front of engine."
"Upper main bearing halves have an oil groove, while lower halves are plain.
    They must not be interchanged."
