I've followed a link Sparky provided to find my VIN data on my '56 CJ5 and found the VIN chart to contain 4 categories of CJ5s; CJ5, CJ5 ST CH, CJ5 C/WS, and CJ5 Fire Eng. What are these ST CH's, C/WS's, and Fire Eng.s? :?

Also, I've found where we can get a replacement VIN sticker that goes on the dash, but is there a source for a replacement metal VIN tag that goes in the engine bay? My '56 has a replacement body and I'd like to get a replacement VIN plate to attach to it.

Please forgive me if this is treading old ground but a search pulls up 10 bazillion hits covering VIN! I stopped reading at about 2 bazillion!

    Thx!

Hmmm... how odd. I guess back then there may have been a market for a jeep stripped down to a rolling chasis. Sure does strike my curiosity. Not sure they would create a VIN just for a cowl and windshield, though! Hey! Maybe "Canadian/West Side"! R)

Yeah, who were these people that just wanted a chassis? Must of been hard core 4 wheelers that didn't need a body to ding on rocks, or for people who thought they could improve on jeep design by fabbing their own.

c/ws? c=canadian, ws= split windshield on all export models, maybe?
can't find any reference in any period literature I have, I do have many mentions of stripped chassis.
