The last 2 weeks my son and I have been working on the Jeep. We replaced the exhaust manifold gasket that was leaking. Additionally we found out that the PO removed the thermostat and didn't replace it so we put in a new one. The bypass hose on the water pump was a straight piece of hose bent at a 90 degree angle so it didn't allow much water by. That was also replaced. We snapped a bolt off when removing the thermostat housing so that took time replacing. The old what ever can go wrong will did. The header had 6 bolts holding it on instead of 7. One hole needed the threads chased with a tap. Two of the header bolts were in water jackets and leaked antifreeze which we sealed up. After all this was done the thing runs great. Before all this the engine had a hesitation when starting off and it is now gone. The engine also has a lot more power. Its amazing.

I once had a simple tune-up turn into a week-long top end overhaul when a spark plug broke and ceramic fell into a cylinder...
