T14 T90 bellhousing

Has anyone ever tried to put a 5/8" to 3/4" thick adapter plate between a T90 and the T14 bellhousing bolted to a 225?
Just starting to measure up for the engine locate and it appears with a change to a 1986 cj7 grill there should be enough clearance. What about length on the input shaft on the tranny? Is this to much to ask of it as I would assume this would mean 5/8" to 3/4" less engagement.
Just thinking out loud, I have the other bellhousing as well, just do not have the adapter yet.
Any thoughts?
