Boy what a bummer on the way home it back fired twice and quit running! Plenty of gas, good spark out of the coil only, dist turns, no apparent slop in the mech that turns the dist shaft turning the crank both ways. For some reason the spark is not making it to the plugs? Rotor, points, condencer and cap are all new. This is maybe telling me that it somehow jumped time like a tooth and the rotor is not pointing at the right spot in the cap when it sparks? Great compression, cranks fine but no fire at all to the plugs. Are these V6s using a timing chain or gears? Dist is tight and I will check into it further tomorror since I just pushed it in the shop! Looking for ideas hoping nothing just went wrong in the cam crank, dist & timimg!! Ran sorta funny (started to crap for a second or 2) just befor it back fired twice and quit when I was cruising 40 mph. Mark

Just a suggestion, but check the battery and alternator. Same thing happened to me this past winter and it wound up being a bad alternator. Funny thing was, I never even got the "alt" light before it died. Verified it bad at my local Autozone, and went ahead and did a alternator upgrade; been great for the past 6 months!! Just my .02

The altinator is OK battry full charge, head lights work, no fuses blown and 12.5 volts to the coil with the key on. Sparks great out of the coil turning it over not just going thru the cap to the plugs? Mark.

Must have been the dist cap slipping off on spring hold down? I checked again and put the cap back on. Hit the key to check TDC and it fired off great and timing was right on the button. I am keeping my fingers crossed tho. MARK

Thats a lot better than slipping a tooth on the timing gear

Least it happen less than 4 miles from home. Just as I pulled over to the side of the road a freind drove up and asked what was wrong and pulled me home and helped push it in the shop! Now that is being lucky again to live in the country. If it had happen in a big city they would have probley towed it off the road to impound! Got to use the new tow clevis hooks I put on the bumper to!! Mark

Had a bad connection on my coil wire before too. Had to spread the "C" shaped connector inside the coil wire insulator out or in so it made a nice tight connection.
