Lift is coming Monday and I allready bought new 7/16" Grade 8 Fine Thread Bolts with Frame Nuts & Hardend #8 Washers for them. Looking in my catalog I notice some shackel bolts that had a larger center to them? Are the 62 CJ5 stock bolts straite 7/16" or do they have a larger center diameter for the bushings? Did not want to pull a bolt till I was ready to put the lift on but now not sure I got the right bolts! Mark

    Mark,
You're not planning to replace the shackle bushings?

I made new shackles for it and bought the bolts allready. Supposed to be new bushing in the in the lift kit or at least in the leaf spring ends. Hoping to be able to buy new bushings if needed for the frame mounts if they are not in the kit?? Are there different types do they just use a standard bolt thru them or raised sholders in the center of the bolt? Mayby I better pull a bolt and take a look to be sure what I got. Hate to get the kit here and not have the right bolts to put it on with! Mark

Most kits come with new bushings and bolts.

Mark, your kit will probably have bushings for the spring eyes but not for your frame mounts. You'll have to buy replacements. Check 4WDH or Quadratec, get the poly bushings that fit 55-75.
The original bushings had an outer metal sleeve that will be rusted to the mount and must be removed. See the thread below for how to remove the old outer metal sleeve:

The new poly bushings will not have an outer metal sleeve. Just clean up the mounting hole, sandpaper, dremmel, etc... then lube it and press the poly bushing into the hole.
Good luck... take pics of the progress.... :)

I'm sure yours should all be 7/16 bolts. IIRC a frame mount that originally had the greasable c shackle would use a larger bolt without the flexible part of the bushing. Maybe that's what you saw in the catalog?

Not the spring hanger bushings? I thought that MOP's (and other's I've worked on) came with that as part of the package??? The bushings were installed in the springs, we had to replace the others in the frame.

Just pulled a side off a shackle and took a look. The bolts are regular bolts. The frame bushing seems to be centerd in the opening with a steel outer tube and a steel inner tube for the bolt to slide in. There is a gap of about 3/16" of some type of material between the 2 metal inserts. They look like they held up good for 40+ years of use! The shackles themselves did not fair well the holes are enlongated from movement where the bolts go thru. Not sure why they used such thin metal on them but my new ones are 3 times as thick twice as wide I made for it. Mark
