Here's a tiny clip of my brother blasting his wheels, he was whining cause he wasn't getting enough air from the supplied pump thing , plus it was hot and sunny where he was blasting, and then also the tip kept getting stopped up on the nozzle , got the job done but was slow go.

One more thing you need to work out. When done blasting you need to get some primer on the metal so you do not have flash rusting. You do not want to deal with that

........All of the Above is great advice & first hand knowledge. You'd be much ahead if you can take it to a Pro or possibly have a Mobile unit Fella come to you ? I did not have all the required tools when I attempted my first ' MY Shop ' sandblast of my KH wheels. My first & last attempt is Pictured below :
A 1 of 5 .1.jpg ...... It took a month of Sunday's to get this done , Nevermind the frustration & the mess :banghead: Sometimes i'ts best to let the Pro's do what they do, Especially for some Fella's like Us .

True. But also keep in mind that some primers can absorb and hold moisture. DAMHIK.

Some media is better than for this than others- I've had stuff rust on me while I was watching it after using sand/silica. When using glass grit it takes quite a while for rust to make it's ugly appearance, usually months if not longer.

I have no idea about why this is other than maybe the surface finish ?

Sand is more abrasive than the glass beads which is of course why it's not used on stuff such as pistons, etc. Depending on the humidity % I've had stuff get a rust film start showing quicker than I anticipated.

I had my tub soda blasted. A little lower risk on warping. Was worth every penny I paid so I didn't have to deal with the mess.
It did start to flash rust with in hours. I ended up have to neutralize due to the soda blasting, and use scotch bright pads to remove the flash rust. That could be the worst job I had to do on the entire re-build

A lot of expertise here in the comments. With limited facilities and experience, I’ve opted to take parts to an area shop that does blasting and let the pros do it. Only wheels and backers so far, but good results and reasonable price (I think) so far.

Whatever you did, it came out great! Your cj has some of the nicest body and paint work I've seen on a Jeep.
I had mine media blasted (tiny plastic beads)& I was really happy with the results, the parts came out clean and smooth like brand new sheetmetal. I had no problem with flash rust but that's probably an apples to oranges comparison because I live in a very arid climate.

I have always thought that soda blasting required neutralizing because a base is just about as bad as an acid. When I epoxied my garage floor, I etched the floor with Muratic acid and washed it down with water until the litmus strips until it was a neutral reading.
