I am working on a CJ7 and removed all the computer stuff and install HEI and a MC 2150 carb.
It was running great when the owner got it but i knew it was a little rich because the original jets are in there and i need to get the proper size. The owner called me today that he replaced the radiator and now the Jeep would not stay idling and hard to start. I pulled the HEI cap and noticed the contact in the cap already had wear on them, i did not like that. i sanded down the contacts to clean up. I pulled the plugs and it is running super rich which i kind of suspected. I pulled all plugs and cleaned them off and reinstalled. It still hard to start and when runnning it was like it was missing cylinders, I pulled the top of the carb off to look in and get the jet sizes, but i noticed there was very little fuel in the bowl. i pulled the lead to the distributer and cranked the motor to see if the pump was pumping and it was bringing in fuel. But it looks like the fuel is just draining into the engine. So i need to figure out how this is happening with the 2150 carb and now we need to change the oil because you can smell fuel in it. so the carb is just dumping fuel in the engine and runnnign bad.

So the question is what is the cause of the fuel just emptying out of the bowl when just sitting on a MC2150?

Check the diaphragm of the power valve. All your symptoms point to exactly this.
A good engine backfire will blow the valve out.

If your power valve does happen to be the problem, (blown), install a vacuum check valve in the vacuum hose that supplies it. A lot of times these get removed or broken and not replaced. It'll save your new power valve.
