Flat Towing

    Is there a ball and spring on my transfer lever somewhere to keep it in nuetral whil I'm towing. Had it jump into gear on the freeway, quite the thrill!!

    Yes. It's the same spring loaded ball that goes into the other two detents in the shift rail. i.e. there are three detents (notches) in the shift rail. I can't remember if its lo-neutral-hi or 2-neutral-4.

    Anyway, it may be pretty easy to change your spring if it's too weak or broken. First make sure that the screw in cover (plug) is tight - one on each side just below the shifters. Could get a replacement from Herm I bet.

    If you'll be towing for any distance, you might consider disconnecting your rear driveshaft. It only takes a few minutes to do, and eliminates a whole lot of things that could go wrong.
