Hey guys its been a while since I've been on but am 30 minutes away from finishing the tranny and T-case rebuild I've been working on(forever). Any way was wondering what the thoughts were on storing everything, like do I put oil in the tranny or leave everything dry? If I do put in oil do I go with the standard 90W or just something light to keep the rust away?

Thanks for the input everyone, missed ya!

Hi Phill, welcome back! Congrats on (almost) finishing the t/tcase rebuild! :)

How long you going to store this?
If it will be semi-long term,
I think I'd fill them with 90 wt, and rotate the input/output once every week or so.

Yella - I put 90Wt in and add a little Marvel Mystry... If it's gonna sit, it's OK to over fill it a little. 'course here in CO if it's got a light coat of oil/grease on it and you keep it out of the weather it will last at least a year before surface rust sets in.

Good to hear your about done. I am dropping and rebuilding a set this weekend, wanna show me what you learned? :D

Wish I could but I am going on a five day Rafting trip with a buddy of mine. Otherwise I'd love to come and help out.

there is a spray lubricant that actually dries on the metal and makes a protective barrier, i would maybe shoot that on the inside. i have a dana 18 sitting around from my jeep and i lubed it down and sealed off the open parts to keep things out.

That's OK - I got pissed at work and came home early and dropped the Tranny and T-case out of the 51 this afternoon. Took my first Muncie apart so I can mate the Tcase to a T-90 I have sitting on my bench. I may make the boy wait a week on rebuilding his. ;)

Now if I can just remember who wanted the adaptor setup for this Muncie.
