I'm gonna keep my eye on it but it doesn't look like i'ld be able to pick it up is I were to win. (Long drive and wife can't lift anything at home)

If it were closing three weeks later i'ld be bidding.

    That's what I was thinking.

Looks like it needs a lot of love. Relays/ contactor upgrade, rope, fairlead then really easy to go upside down if there are any issues internally or with the motor.

If @homersdog or @Boyink are able to hold it for a few weeks till mid April I'll bid too much and deal with the consequences... I do NEED it.

If you win it let me know, I can pick it up and store it in my shed. It is located only about 1/2 hour from me. They will probably want some paper work saying you have someone picking it up for you.

I placed the bid on this one. Is there anything obvious I missed above? It looks like this is set-up to load boats and I feel like the risk of internal damage is slim or limited to water/rust. I have people who know how to rebuild the motor locally and I figure it will get a synthetic rope and i'll swap the solenoid pack to a contactor under the hood. It doesn't look to have a remote... There are kits but I assume a hard wired dash switch is used 80% for recovery and a remote is more useful for moving logs and such?

So the question now is when would you folks suggest to walk away?

Think about it this way - at what amount would you be afraid of winning it?

Vintage modification... Honestly I'll cut the bolt and weld rebar on instead. The ratchet is an issue... I need to find a source for that, or at least a good drawing to make one.

This should be the ratchet kit:

After a little more studying it appears the Ratchet is there under the cables:

I would bet this was used to load cars onto a trailer. The local police department there would not have a reason to own a boat big enough for an electric winch. But you can call the contact there, he may know the history of it.

I bought an 8274 about 8 years back off local Craigslist. It was advertised as a boat winch. It was mounted to the back floor of a garage where the garage door faced the canal. There were a pair of iron rails from the boat slip into the garage, and a sled/cradle for the boat. Pretty neat setup. The winch was always inside and never saw any weather, and has a stainless cable. The plastic relay/solenoid cover is cracked though. One of my best CL buys at $100.

Next bid is $400 I think I'm out unless someone can really justify spending $7-800 all said and done with parts, transportation (me and fuel to buy grant lunch), taxes.

I'ld rather have rebuilt axles, a set of tires, or the sm465 finally swapped in.

I agree that's too much since it's condition is unknown.

I agree... bumped the other guy up to paying $450.
Now I do what I do best and waddle away.
He ain't getting it cheap today. I'll keep my snow plow brackets, buy some tires or axle parts.
