    Hey all...

I know the "book" specifies a pilot bushing, but I'd prefer a roller bearing.

Summit Racing has part SUM-G1700, which says it will fit every Chevy engine in existance, including the 231. Will this fit our 225?

Sorry if this post ends up here a couple times. The forum keeps saying the server is too busy, which also has prevented me from searching.

    Thanks!

I've never been good at searching forums for the info I need. I did a search, and turned up more results for 350 swaps than for 225's... Could this indicate I'm stuck with a bushing instead of a bearing? I already have the bushing on hand. I just need to get this order for my clutch parts out to Summit, cuz they can get the parts to me in 2 days. I'm off the rest of the week, so it'd be nice to have the new clutch and my SM420 mounted up by the end of the weekend.

If I can save $13 by not buying the wrong bearing, I'd appreciate the advice. :)

    Thanks!

Seems like someone here in the last month had installed rollers in their jeep. Be patient I am sure somebody will remeber.

I just went ahead and ordered it. If the OD/ID/Depth are not the same as my bushing, I simply won't use it. Hopefully Novak will get back to me before it comes in.

I did.... Just go to autozone.com and look up pilot bearin for your jeep. It give the standard bushing and also a HD Timken bearing as a choice. Online the price was ~$13. I ordered it form in the store and it was $6, only a buck fifty more than the bushing.

Thanks. The Timken bearing was "Not Available" every time I've looked.

That's why I have a new bushing in hand.

I'd imagine that this one I ordered is the right dimensions. It looks like it's proportioned similar in the photo, so I'll take my chances. If it doesn't fit, I'll hit up the local parts shops again to see what they can find.

Thanks for the part number, that will help!

My local NAPA had both the bushing and the bearing in stock for my 231. I would assume that there's no difference there with the 225.

That's what I'm thinking. I mean, I know the 225 has to have a 225 flywheel, cuz it's balanced differently... but I can't imagine GM making a Buick engine that takes a different pilot bearing. Seems counter productive to have to tool up for a whole new bearing, especially when it's obviously beefy enough for the larger engines already.

Just to throw this out, not all transmissions tips are designed to use a pilot bearing, some are designed to specifically use a pilot bushing, and from a toolmakers point of view I can vouch for this. If the transmission tip is not harder than the bearing you will prematurely wear the transmission tip.

This is good to know. So I guess the question here is not just "will this fit", but also "what is the SM420 supposed to use?"
