Hello Guys i give up ive been having so much trouble finding the correct replacement oil filler cap for my CJ which has a amc 258 engine. ive purchase several types online but i cant find one that fits. im guessing at one point Jeep changed the designed of the valve covers and my jeep is just an odd one. all the caps ive purchased are supposed to be ones that fit 73 jeep amc 258 but they are too big.
the cap from my saginaw power steering is what seems to be closest to the size that fits on it but it doesnt seal well on the cover. i have thought about buying a new valve cover but all the new ones sold are different than mine. everytime i take my jeep for a ride i have to clean all the spilled oil and top it off due to not having a sealing cap. im so frustrated about the whole situation im close to just doing a 4.0 head swap just so i can a have a working oil filler cap it sounds ridiculous but its been that big of an issue
does any one know what cap might fit it? thanks again

Have you searched the summit racing website for a cap that matches the size of the hole in your valve cover? They have over 800 part numbers for oil filler caps.
Pictures and/or measurements would help us.

How about going into RockAuto or somewhere and going to American Motors parts listings from late 60s or so. Check out the oil filler caps for their straight 6 engines there.

It seems all the straight 6 engines list the Motorad MO66 or Gates 31066. Even the Dauntless V6 lists that part. So I'm sure you've tried that part by now. Very strange problem. I'll have to measure the opening on my V6.
