Drove next door to show Jim the new back end just now. Parked in his driveway I asked him to check the brake lights. I pushed the pedal by hand and they did not come on for some reason. So I jumped in to push them with my foot and the pedal went to the floor! It felt just like the linkage just came off. Jim looked under and brake fluid was running down my front right tire! What a rush to have it happen sitting still instead of out on the road doing 60 mph in traffic!! The tire had worn a spot in the rubber hose in just a few miles of having them on. Glad I did not take it to town yet. Good reason to check your flex hoses on your Jeeps soon. New ones going on tomorrow. Some one is watching out for me big time! Mark

Wow is right, could have been fatal.
Good reason to have or install a dual reservoir master cylinder!

Me Too! Might just be grounds for a change to a Dual Master Cylinder like I did on my Power Wagon and M37 just for this reason. One line goes and all the brakes are gone at once. I did not relise it was a single Master Cylinder till now. Only owned it a week and a haft now. Still digging into it. Mark

My steering shaft broke once in the CJ in the Mddle of a turn in New London, CT, I would up in someones front yard.. scared the crap out of me! When I got it apart I had found the shaft to be welded before where it broke, finding a new shaft for the V-6 was a PITA! anyhow brakes and steering are scary things to lose!

Buddy had the same thing happen on a beautiful J truck I found for him. It was a custom cab w/ T18 tranny w/ granny first. Body was perfect and I found lots of NOS parts for it. He hit a tree and crunched the entire front end near the shop where he works.

I lost a seal inside the master cylinder in rush hour traffic once. Nothing quite as fun as pumping the brakes quickly 20 times every time the caterpillar train decides to stop and lurch forward again. Come to think of it, every major problem I've had with my CJ has happened in the middle of rush hour traffic. Lost a throwout bearing, had to start in 1st and synchro shift my way to the nearest exit. Lost the trans and tcase in rush hour side-street traffic. Yaaay. She has yet to break on the trail, but with all the money I've spent on her over the last couple years, she'll soon have that chance! :)

You must have some luck yet, glad to hear you caught the problem before it became a major issue!
