The 229 was before the 4.3 (262ci)
The 229 is a smaller bore and semi-odd fire. The distributor is a major problem because it was only a large cap for the semi-odd fire motor. You can use the short water pump and accessories for a 55chevy v8 for a good fit with the t-90 moved forward a touch. Even then you need a thin radiator to fit. the exhaust manifolds, oil pan, and intake on a early 4.3

They are ok, decent torque enough hp all your typical 305 hop ups, even cams are available. The low rider episode of dirt every day had one.

Personally I would pick that up to get by while you are in college, then build up a 4.3 that's exactly what I did.
