Are there gaskets between the manifolds and the exhaust pipe?

Passenger ex manifold should be flat mounting for metal gasket where heat riser would mount.
I think muffler shop time to make a flat flange then...or some other supllier for DIY mod.

No gaskets used for manifolds to heads. Metal to metal from factory.

To jump in on this subject, how many folks are still using heat risers and what do they think of them?
The reason I ask is that I am getting ready to buy the premade exhaust system from Waldron exhaust and I have to check with them, but I'm not sure if they bend their exhaust as if the heat riser is there or if bend it for a direct fit to the manifold. I had planned on calling them after the holidays.
I have heard the heat risers are problematic and can just be used as a spacer with the flap removed. My jeep didn't have one when I bought it. I'm talking about the V8, not sure about the 6-cyl. Thanks.

Heat risers were used to divert hot exhaust gasses under the carb, providing a rudimentary cold weather intake manifold heating system. I suggest to keep it if you live in colder climbs and yours is intact.

It was common for heat riser valves to corrode over time and freeze up, sometimes in the closed position. They do require a check once in a while, usually during an oil change, and a shot of PB if it is feeling crunchy. They use a bi metal spring, much like the one used on the choke to open and close the valve. It is common for the spring to break or the mounting post to go missing. Carbon can also build up in the intake crossover which can restrict or block the gasses, making the system marginal or worthless.

If yours is missing I wouldn't worry to much about trying to replace it.

    Have you searched?
    1972-74 Jeep V8 Single Exhaust – Waldron's Exhaust (waldronexhaust.com)
There are several threads here that mention Waldron, at least for the 225 V6.
I have their aluminized system for my '71 model.
