The newest best riding leaf sprung vehicle I had was a 94 s10 with a hand full of leafs in a loose stack. When it was empty only one or two springs were touching then when loaded it road on the full stack like helper springs.

In that mindset I would use the longest main spring with a thick 2nd leaf then every other leaf from the fresh stock style pack.

Best riding/softest leaf springs in my experience are on 67-70 Chevy/GMC vans. Very long, 2 leaf, double taper (thick and narrow at the axle; wide and thin at the ends). The secondary leaf is shaped so it contacts the main leaf only at the center and tips. Very little inter-leaf friction. I'd love to have them on my CJ6 but they're much too long. And unobtanium.
