So, I've looked for information on removing the shifter interlock from the Dana 20 transfer case. From what I have found the interlock or pills are installed between the shift rails. Requiring a transfer case removal and tear down to remove.

    Is this correct?

    Thanks

Yes, you have to tear it down in order to remove the shift rails. Keep in mind, the interlock pill is crucial for the stock single stick shifter to function properly unless you are going to a twin stick setup.

Be careful with the D20. Without the pill, the front and rear drives operate completely independent of each other. You can run high range in one axle and low in the other, or any other possible combination.

    BINGO, Twin stick already installed,
and believe it or not I am smart enough to know what combinations of selector levers to not use. DUH!
45 years of wheeling will do that.

When I did my D20 overhaul a few months back, I was originally going to pull the pills out to allow that but then I thought about someone driving it hunting and did not know that it could do low and high between diffs. And rather than scatter extra metal on the trail, I left the pills in and get jealous every time I see someone else do a front dig.

Has nothing to do with you being smart enough, but that's my reasoning for leaving them in. I do like the twin stick and I can do the rear only low range so I am happy with that. But you could do that with the original setup anyway.

They say there is a way you an grind your rails to be able with the pills in be able to with a twin stick shift either front or rear only into high or low. I had apparently did a little too much grinding when I installed my Tera Low. I can have front and rear in different ranges. It is tough to get the case unlocked.
