I’m in Venice, CA. Want to get my fan belts replaced and clutch linkage lubricated - don’t have the space, tools, or skills to do it myself. Anyone happen to have a mecahanic recommendation in this area (1980 CJ-5)? If not, what do you look for when seeking a mechanic to work on your CJ. Seems like everyone with “jeep” in their name, has subpar reviews over here, compared to the “general mechanic” shops. Those general shops tend to work on mostly modern cars though. Appreciate your guys’ input

Any mechanic worthy of the name can change fan belts and lubricate whatever has a grease fitting.

It's matter of knowing what to grease etc.. I'd try to find a local jeep group and make friends and learn.. A vintage Jeep is kinda like a pet, you just sort of "have to" do it yourself. It's almost a responsibility to own one. (says the guy that has multiple jeeps in pieces and none of them running.. ). As Oldpappy said, any mechanic can do what you are asking but I'd be willing to bet there is a lot more to do in there.

    Good luck friend!

What you want done can be accomplished in the street with a single wrench and an oil squirt can.

One of the great benefits of owning an older vehicle is gaining the confidence to be self-sufficient. And there is no substitute for "getting out and getting under" in monitoring the condition of your vehicle and preventing surprises.

Start by obtaining an OEM Factory Service Manual for your year. It will repay you x100.

Happy to see another Jeeper in the area! x2 about getting a service manual and being DIY about it. Half the fun of owning a vintage vehicle is wrenching on it and learning about it. Once you start fiddling with stuff yourself, you'll realize it's not as daunting as you'd think. If you ever wanna meet up for a coffee and talk Jeeps just holler. I'm also still learning but am happy to share any tips I've acquired. I'm in Burbank.
