Lol.... I like the jeep and have done quite a bit to improve it. I just think in the big scheme of things it's not my Thang. I thought it would be a simple project for the kid that would have been finished months ago. It's been the opposite of what I was hoping and I just can't get motivated to work on it let alone get it finished.

To be honest I would rather see it go to the right person that has the time and skills to finish it the right way. If I keep it I would probably end up chopping it up, lowering it and making a 2wd 500 hp jeep bucket. Well probably not . My interests are fast and low 2wd V8 powered street toys and motorcycles. I just feel the sale of this would do several things to get me back where I feel I should be.

I guess I I doesn't sale for my high price I will sit on it for a while and at least finish it the right way. It really just needs some basic mechanical stuff, new wiring harness to be installed (in a box in my garage) and paint job (again all paint and body work materials in my garage). Just no motivation to get it it done.

Nothing wrong with having tried it and deciding it's not for you (or your son). Like you say, it should go on to someone who wants it. There are plenty who do.

Glad the forum could help out in the meanwhile!

You know what, I just realized you said it was happening only in reverse. Don't most early CJ5's have a long bolt on the bell housing that connects to the frame? I believe I've read that if that isn't present, or if it's too loose, you'll get some hopping in reverse, with how the clutch pedal is setup. I get some slight hopping when I reverse up a hill (don't get it on flat ground), but it's never bothered me. (edit) oh I see this was already mentioned.

Also, have any photos of the jeep? you're a little far from me (I'm south of the Bay Area) but I might be interested in it.

I would have trouble messing up a nice Jeep but they can easily double as hotrods. Suicide machines? Maybe that too.

This is a very common issue if you don't have a stay cable from the bellhousing back to the crossmember.
