20230903_084332.jpg What was the normal procedure dealers did to convert column shift to floor shift?
Does mine look to be a dealer conversion or redneck garage job?
    Many thanks in advance!

No see any photos. I'm not sure there was a "standard" dealer conversion either, but just replacing the transmission cover (and plugging the side shift holes) and floor plate, along with removing the column shift linkage, would get the job done.

I'm thinking that if the switch was done to a floor shift, it would have been the owner of the Jeep, not something that happened at the dealership.

The ‘64 and ‘65 Tuxes all has column shift and a single-stick transfer case. There was no dealer option to opt out. When the V6 was introduced in ‘66 in the Tuxedo Park, these only came with a cane (floor) shift T86.
The column shift linkage was notorious for very sloppy shifting after many miles accumulated, so many early Tuxes were converted by owners to regular cane shift T90’s from regular CJ’s. Its a simple bolt-in swap.
It is possible to convert a side-shift T90 to cane shift with the swap of the top shifting mechanism, but still required near total transmission disassembly (countershaft cluster gear can remain) to remove the side shifting forks and actuating levers, then plugging the two holes. Its much simpler to just use a cane shift T90.
All of your forward floors (from the bed riser forward) are redneck backyard work. The Tux body tub and all floors are standard CJ5, except small bolt-on covers and minor floor plates. Even the large transmission floorplate and firewall panel are shared.
You should also have the regular toolbox compartment on the passenger side.

I see the photos now, the entire floor has been replaced at some point.

And if this is sitting outside, cover that transmission tower/shifter with something or you WILL end up with water in the T90!!!!

I converted my Tux to a floor shift by using a 66 T90 trans and the whole floor shift floor cover. I kept the column shift trans and all the parts, but they were worn and sloppy. I found a low mileage 66 V 6 donor Jeep and used the axels and full drive train to restore my Tux, I found an F134 army surplus new in the box to put in my 64 Tux it made a good trail and road cruiser. Good Luck with your project.
