    How to find TDC on #1 with valve in the way?
    Starter solenoid negative terminal gets hot enough to smoke after a couple cranks.
    What compression is considered good when cold? Engine was stuck a bit but got it free.

    Check to see if you have a ground strap from the engine to the chassis, and make sure connections are clean and tight. Where does the negative cable from the battery attach to ?
    Compression of 135-145 is good. More important, how even are the numbers across all cylinders?

    Donny Thanks for replying to my many posts for this mess I bought.

    Neg cable goes to bolt that is on engine mount in frame. It's bare metal clean.
    The weaved metal ground strap is on that also but looks nasty and is attached to engine block. Looks to be welded to block? Should I buy a pre-made ground strap and attach it from block to frame?
    Where is best?
