    Just finished this timewaster.

Five-Ton (10,000 lb) hand-crank winch, I fabricated a mount so as to use it on the tractor. A little "too much" for a Jeep, but I did think about it!

Has two speeds, a friction brake, and a ratchet lock. Drum has 60ft of cable in the pictures, but will hold 300 feet-plus of 3/8". With the trailer hitch, it may come in handy for loading trailers. Also pulling out logs etc. Very heavy, but with the small wheels I reckon I can roll it around and use it at work by chaining it to an anchor point - to raise a timber-frame barn, for instance

Mostly junkyard parts and steel. I bought the 1926 winch locally for $100, then saw several of them on fleabay for $2500 to $3500.

Pretty cool, good job! Gotta admit with the spelling I was wondering what a 3 point Wench would look like.

That's super cool, I've never seen one of those. I like your 3-point hitch mount too, that'll come in handy I'm sure.

My research suggests they are/were used places like ships and river barges.

I've got a similar 2 ton one I've inherited from my Grandpa. Made by Beebe Brothers in Seattle. It's never left the state except for the 3 years we lived in Oregon.

I've used it to pull multiple dead cars on the car trailer and also to pull dead cars into the shop. It still works great. I really need to make a stand for it so I stop using questionable spacers for full crank rotation. I like how it has adjustable leverage on the crank.

Even this two ton one seems to wiegh over 100lbs. I can't imagine how much the 5 ton wench weighs.

Very Nice! And handy. Mine was also made by BB Bros, weighs 150# according to the catalog. Add the 890 feet (!) of cable they claim it will spool, and it's definitely no featherweight. Hence the tractor mount. Now... if I can figure how to power it from the PTO... :sneak:

The two-tonners were used to operate the ramp on WWII "Higgins Boat" landing craft, among other things.

Beebe merged with Ingersol Rand in 1987.

I'm guessing somewhere between coyote ugly and two-bag ugly.
