I have tested all my wires to find my short but I can not find it. If I pull the wires off the resistor it still drains the battery. Is it possible to have a short where the battery cable connects to the starter?

Do you have a short in a wire, or a battery drain problem? (Two different things)

It is a brand new battery and it went dead in two days. I guess it would be a drain but what would cause this? Like I said I seperated it from the rest of the jeep so what is causing the draw?

uh, your description is kind of general to try and pinpoint the problem... You pull the wires off of the resistor? You mean the ballast? If you have a short in the battery cable going to the starter, you'll have bigger problems than a dead battery....

When it is dark out pull the conection to the altinator and see if it sparks some when you brush it against the conection. Sometimes a bad internal diode will drain the battry down over night or longer. Depends on the type of charging system you have. Mark

This sort of thing can be diagnosed with an amp gauge also. Disconnect the pos bat cable and hook up the amp gauge inline. If it is reading anything, you have draw somewhere. Start disconnecting wires until it goes away, track it to its source. NOTE, make sure you don't have a stereo with "memory", dome light on, car alarm on, underhood light on, engine computer (fuel injected), etc, all of these things draw power and will show up on this test!

Make sure when you close the hood, nothing is touching the pos bat post, but I think you would know if it was!

I have seen intermittent shorts caused by nicks in the pos bat cable insulation where it was rubbing against a frame, motor mount, fender edge, etc--completely remove the pos bat cable and inspect it! A rubber fuel line split lengthwise and slipped over the cable is good insurance if you have to run the cable next to a sharp edge.

Nowadays batteries come ready to run, and a lot are sealed so you can't add electrolyte..............but it can't hurt to make sure your battery is properly filled if it is that type........

Let us know what you find out!
