Hi-can anyone help me with a daft question? We have a late 1940s gearbox on a 1943 jeep. I don’t want to change it as the T90 is better BUT the two bumps at g the front stick out a lot and stop the plate sitting flat-what do these do and can we grind them off?

Welcome aboard the site! Post a photo. I swapped the T84 out of my college roommate's MB for a T90 and don't recall any problems even though the T90 was a little longer. But that was more than a half century back----

Not sure what "two bumps" you are talking about, but assume you mean the bosses for the shift rail bores and if so, NO you can't grind those off.

Explain more as to why these "bumps" stop the plate from sitting flat. Is it interference with the body?

The only time I put a T-90 in a MB was many years ago, and because the T90 was taller than the T84 I had to lower the crossmember with spacers so the shifter would clear the floor of the jeep.

I’m guessing the two bumps might be the side-shift bosses that aren’t used with a cane shift transmission?

Those side-shift bosses are certainly "bumps" but I don't think they would "stop the plate sitting flat".

I am only guessing, but I assumed he meant the floor plate / cover over the top of the transmission. On a 1943 Jeep (MB or GPW) the transmission cover is a flat plate with a hole for the shift tower of the T84 it would have had originally. When you replace a T84 with a T90 in one of these Jeeps the shift tower of the T90 interferes with that floor plate which is why I used spacers to lower the transmission cross member the one time I did that.
