    I can't take credit for that method. It is my adaptation of part of the method described in an article written by John Gibbons a number of years ago. John Gibbons figured out how to adjust the valves without using feeler gauges by determining how many thousandths each turn of the adjuster equaled, but I feel more comfortable using a gauge.

    I have a tool developed to do just that, made in England about 45 years ago. Mount a socket wrench, turn certain number of clicks per rotation, etc.

    But the only time I used it, I blew up by the side of the Autobahn in Germany - with a burnt valve.

    IMHO, using a feeler gauge really isn't very difficult.
