Hi all. I am new to the board, and hopefully will be new to Jeeps pretty soon. So I will start out by asking the oldest question in the book.

How much is a 65? Tuxedo Park Mark iV worth?

A family friend of mine is selling her husband's "toy" jeep because he is ill. I would like to offer her a fair price, but don't know where to begin. Here are a few details:

    -I think it's a '65 but not sure
-body is in very good condition and has been repainted a few years ago. There are no signs of significant rust (I am new to Jeeps but not new to old cars, so I know what to look for)
-4 cylinder seems to run well and has been maintained.
-Electrical wiring is shot, and needs to be completely replaced
-No top or doors of any kind included
-Front seets need new covers (no back seat)
    -90,000 miles on nonfunctioning odometer

Overall, I would say that the CJ is in pretty good condition. However, it is far from origional. In fact, most of the crome that distinguishes it as a Tuxedo Park model has been painted over.

There is also a jeep trailer that is included that seems to be in similer condition

    So... Where do I begin.

    Thanks in advanced,
    Bymper

    Welcome from Boston!

There are several factors: where you live, what you're willing to pay, what you want to end up with, completeness, exterior condition, and mechanical condition. Probably a few I haven't thought of too. Unless the mileage is really low and the condition is very original, mileage is not very relevant.

If you can, I'd suggest you post some pictures - you'll get a lot better responses if we can see what you're talking about.

If it's a real Bantam trailer, it's worth at least a few hundred on its own. There are later military trailers too... again, a picture would be helpful. Say, $500-800 for a Jeep trailer in good condition.

The CJ is harder - I'd guess somewhere between $1500 and $4500 is a good starting point. The low end is a bargain if the vehicle is complete and not rusty. A rusty CJ could go for as little as a few hundred dollars. A beautiful original vehicle could go for more, maybe as high as $8000 or $10000. This does not sound like the vehicle you are describing though.

Thank you all for a quick responce. I am heading out the door now and can't wait to get back to find more responces.

I will update my profile later, but fyi... I live in Charlottesville, VA.

As stated earlier, the Jeep is in very good condition structuraly, but definately not an origional or standout vehicle. It does run well.

Oh. I forgot to mention that it is missing the heater controlls. I bet that's hard to find!?

Heater controls can be had..... And the lack of them on this (or any) JEEP would probably not be a selling (non selling ) point. Depending on the condition of the JEEP.....
Some pics would definitely help some of these guys help you decide what it's worth....

Hello from AZ! If it helps, I have a 65 Tux that I bought for a dollar (you get what you pay for!) and last weekend I found an almost flawless 65 Tux for $3500.00. The Tux I found didn't have any rust that I could see, and the engine ran like a dream. The only flaw that it had was that someone painted it baby blue 10yrs ago. Hope this helps, and hope your friend get well soon!

Thanks again for all the feed back. I am getting ready to head out of town for the weekend, but I may try to get some pictures today. It's raining here and I am a landscaper, so I may have some free time today.

The painted over chrome could be a blessing in disguise. Paint may have actually protected the chrome from rusting. Good luck.
