looking for a mod that will hold the hood catch outward away from the hood until it is closed? i feel like every time i need to shut the hood the old spring-loaded mechanism is always leaning in toward the engine. then i have to make multiple trips from one side to the other. is there some kind of retaining clip that holds it upright or outward until i can ge around to the other side?

The base of the latch is not symmetrical on mine and only allow the latch to fall away from the hood.

When unlatched mine tilt away from the hood and rest at 60 degrees. And then, with the hood up, if you try to put them in, they go inward pass 90 degrees but are still almost upright but, they are in the way for closing the hood.

Make sure yours are installed to toggle outward.

If they are leaning in with the hood up, maybe rotating the base 180 degrees on both will let them lean out. Just a thought---

Or buy new latches, they don't cost much.
