Double Cardan Rear Propellor Shaft

Todays progress.
Measured the gap and it needs an 18” propeller shaft.
Cut the tube.
Aligned or phased the two yoke ends.
Pressed the tube end onto the centering ball yoke. Then I got it running true as an arrow,
Stick welded the 1/8” gap with full penetration.
Here’s the results.

 

Painted all my double cardan shaft parts.
Took the new greasable Spicer 153x joints off my first double cardan attempt.
Carefully assemble the new shaft components so that I could access the zerks.
Then I installed the completed assembly.
This joint does not wobble outta control like my first double cardan attempt. Doing it all myself now I actually know what a double cardan joint is all about.
My new shaft is at a 16* degree angle and it spins just as true as can be. And removing that park brake took an extra 10 pounds of my propeller shaft.



And now this jeep is finally ready to begin on the body.

 

Ford 289 for most of that time, injected 302 now. NP435 trans/D18 t-case, 4.56 gears and 35's.
