I got the idea from another forum, but he didn get that good of ananswer. Since th eFhead has an inspection cover on their bellhousing, i was wondering if i could cut an opening on top of th ebellhousing and make a cover that is removeable. Will this be a bad thing? The V6 bellhousing is aluminum, and the 4 cyl is steel bellhousing, so i know the 4 cyl is a bit stronger and made with the cover, but say if i cut out a cover the size of the 4 cyl on the v6 will this really fail? How much stress is actually on a bellhousing??

I would advise against i. I have blown a dauntless bellhousing apart and let me tell you it is not a pretty scene. Dont mess with the structural integrity. If it fails under load patentially could have alot of parts going in alot of different directions. Mine wasnt a structural failure, mine was an oversight on my part. When bellhousings explode it is always a bad thing.

OK, just wondering aloud. :) would be cool for a company to make an aftermarkt housing with a cover like that.

I blew a Cast Iron Bell Housing in my Jeester once. I had the floor pan off to work on the Pivot Point for the clutch fork. Was installing a new one when the old one fell into the bottom! Could not get it out and put the new one in anyway. Bad idea!! Sitting in the drive way reving it up out of gear the wind must have kicked it up! It blew the clutch Pressure Plate apart and shaterd the bell housing. It came up thru the open floor pan and parts landed on the roof and a bunch on the ground. I heard the parts wiss by my head and it sure was a wake up for a 15 year old and his first rig he bought! Mark
